Chiropractic Effective for Cervicogenic Headache

Largo Chiropractic Therapy Effective for Cervicogenic Headache

We see a large number of men and women with headaches in our Largo office, and Largo Injury Pain Relief Center has been able to provide relief for many of them. Actually, the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that 50% of all adults have difficulty with some sort of headache disorder, so this certainly isn't surprising. One of the most common kinds of headaches which our patients are afflicted with is cervicogenic headache which, happily, chiropractic treatment can generally help.

Cervicogenic Headaches Defined

A cervicogenic headache is one that starts from an issue in the cervical spine. It could be a result of an issue with either the spine itself (primarily, the vertebrae, joints, or discs), or it might be due to a problem in the muscles and tendons of your neck. This problem in your spine results in compaction or irritation of the spinal nerves, which can result in headache problems.

How do you identify if the headache you are suffering from is a cervicogenic headache? Besides receiving a diagnosis from a healthcare specialist, a common symptom of cervicogenic headaches is tenderness or pain in your neck. This is sometimes accompanied by pain in the back of your head or between your shoulder blades.

How Chiropractic Helps with Cervicogenic Headaches

Considering cervicogenic headaches will not go away until whatever issue is triggering them is corrected, it is essential to receive treatment rather than just trying to "wait it out." Chiropractic care is an effective solution, and one that offers a considerable amount of relief.

In one study published in Chiropractic & Osteopathy, researchers looked at 80 people who had frequent cervicogenic headaches. Half received chiropractic care and the other fifty percent underwent light massage therapy. Each participant was assessed 12 and 24 weeks after the procedures and it was discovered that chiropractic provided the best effects.

In particular, this study revealed that chiropractic adjustments offered patients greater pain relief and diminished the number of headaches that occurred. What's more, it also diminished the disability that resulted from these painful headaches.
